This time around, it was at the Grand Prix Deriugina Cup in Kiev, Ukraine. For starters, Grand Prix in the world of Gymnastics is closely placed next to the World Cups and Olympics. The Deriugina Cup in Kiev was established 22 years ago and is considered to be one of the grandest stages for Rhythmic Gymnastics which upholds a lot of great traditions.
The 22nd edition of the Grand Prix Deriugina Cup had participants from 28 countries around the world and Rhythmic Gymnasts from UAE was successful enough to grab two Silver medals, making 2017 start on a great note. It was Pask Elizabeth and Young Evin who made this dream-like achievement a reality for UAE. This victory also means that the standards have been set higher for all the ambitious gymnasts from our country for this year. “It was a great experience to compete at the Grand Prix, which was one of my dreams with which I grew up. Apart from competing at the International competition, I was also able to learn a lot from the well-known Rhythmic Gymnasts who attended the Deriugina Cup”, stated Pask Elizabeth, DuGym RG gymnast who won second place in Pre-Junior Competition 2007-2008 category. During the competition, UAE as a country was standing out. Many gymnasts were asking about Dubai and UAE. We were also able to have new friends and learn from them during the International competition. They have agreed to visit Dubai during the DuGym Cup later this year, remarked Young Evin, the winner of second place in Pre-Junior Competition 2005-2006 category. Director and head coach of DuGym Rhythmic Gymnastics, Angel Ebru Ilgaz, stated that “the victory at Kiev, Deriugina Cup for UAE is one of the greatest title achievements. DuGym Rhythmic Gymnastics club, established in 2006 and was the first Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) club in UAE. “Great titles wins in the recent past by DuGym Rhythmic Gymnasts is keeping UAE in the limelight as a great competitor with many Emirati and expat talents”, said Angel, This is also giving parents inspiration and enthusiasm to train their girls from young age. - END - UAE RESIDENT SELECTED TO BE PART OF NATIONAL TEAM OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN GYMNASTICS FEDERATION.4/3/2017 Kaylin Van Heerden residing in Dubai will now prepare for Youth Olympic Games (YOG)
Dubai, 29 March 2017 – For Kaylin Van Heerden residing in Dubai, the month of March was not any ordinary. It all started just as any another day until around mid-day on the 26th of March, when Kaylin received a call from Angel Ebru Ilgaz, the Director and Head Coach of DuGym Rhythmic Gymnastics Club. Angel had just brought great news to Kaylin and her family, the update being that she has been selected to be part of the National Team of South African Rhythmic Gymnastics. This achievement for Kaylin, who just turned 14 years, didn’t come so easily to her. There was a lot of hard work and training that she required beforehand. Kaylin admits that any sport (or passion) requires many sacrifices and consistent determination. 18 – 20 hours is the average training hours that she puts in place a week at her club - DuGym Rhythmic Gymnastics, which does not include the warm ups. To fit the training hours in any normal week with school means that she will have very little time to watch special series or programs on television. But for an aspiring girl, who dreams of competing in World Cups and Olympics, she is quite determined to do what it takes to get to the top. It was in November 2016 that Kaylin stroke the cord high by winning third place at the International Rhythmic Gymnastics Pecs Cup 2016, held at Hungary representing UAE from DuGym Rhythmic Gymnastics. The very next month she emerged with Gold medal in the Junior level 1st Dubai International Rhythmic Gymnastics DuGym Cup. Now Kaylin has turned out to be the first UAE resident to attain the glory of being able to make to this level and to be part of the South African National Team. This also means that she is eligible to participate in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG), and shall shortly start preparation for the same. Speaking about Kaylin, Angel, her head coach said, close to two years, we are seeing the tremendous dedication that Kaylin puts in. Hard work never seized, neither does her determination to be the best, and it is rare to see at this young age, a culmination of all rhythmic gymnastics elements and grace that is required for all gymnasts who dream of being part of Olympics, and these are truly evidently in our star - Kaylin. DuGym Rhythmic Gymnastics coaches and gymnasts wished Kaylin all the best as she is now embarking on a phenomenal journey in life. Kaylin’s achievement has also given encouragement to other budding talents from UAE like Evin Young and Chloe Young from DuGym RG, who will now participate in the zonal competition held at Canterbury Christ Church University Sports Centre, United Kingdom, after which they will compete for the National Team selections. The specialist in the field of gymnastics and coaches from DuGym Rhythmic Gymnastics believe that both Evin and Chloe can emerge victorious in this zone competition.
